Introducing Chris Unwin
To be successful in life risk advising takes more than knowledge and practice management skills. The most challenging aspect of this discipline is the need for excellent interpersonal communication skills - and within this skill set sit the sales skills so necessary for getting the client engaged and ready to make decisions.
The next most challenging aspect is then fitting these skills into the compliance regime we work within.
Chris Unwin has been highly successful in passing on his own skills in these areas to advisers, in a framework of interactive workshops using practical tools as well as case studies and lots of examples. New and experienced advisers find these workshops invaluable and a great return on investment - the
testimonials are proof of that.
Chris and
the risk store have undertaken together to bring to you a store of tips and tools related to the client engagement - the sale - process.

Chris Unwin
Chris graduated from Oxford University with a law degree in 1977 - and by 1978 he was working as a commission only life insurance broker in the City of London! Over the next 10 years, Chris acquired some 400 clients and a team of fifteen life brokers. In 1988, the year before Chris came to Australia, he generated personal insurance commissions of some $350,000.
After coming to Australia in 1989, Chris has spent the majority of his time training financial advisers across the industry on the advisory process and more specifically on how to incorporate protection most effectively in a financial plan.
For the last 3 years, Chris has maintained his business as a specialist risk adviser as well as working with clients such as MLC/NAB, AXA, Asteron, Asgard Wealth Solutions, BT/Westpac, Guardian, Zurich, RetireInvest and Millennium 3.
Chris delivers his subject matter with a rare level of energy and passion, which he looks forward to sharing with you at one of his workshops. The monthly contribution to
the risk store's Weekly Risk Read will give members a glimpse of the skills behind Chris' success in training advisers.
Testimonials
Here is a sample from Chris' satisfied participants. More testimonials can be viewed here - take a look. More than a few advisers have returned several times to the same workshop, improving their results each time they do!
"They say you are never too old to learn and yesterday proved that all over again. Your workshop was informative, refreshing, and great 'opportunity cost'. I came away so enthused that I have already sat down to implement much of your fact file and presentation methods into my own practice (this after some 20+ years in my own practice). It was fantastic!"
Peter Hartnell - Financial Adviser, Melbourne
"It is hard to know if it is worth travelling to Sydney for courses but I certainly found your course well worth the effort. I really enjoyed the day and the manner in which you delivered the information. I have been trying to find the perfect formula for calculating the appropriate level of cover and getting myself confused!! Your straightforward, easy to understand approach has put it all into perspective and I am more comfortable recommending risk."
Sharon Ferguson - Financial Adviser, Wagga Wagga
"
Thank you for putting on what I thought was the best risk workshop I have ever attended. The ideas are not only sensible, but also practical to implement. This is a 'must' workshop designed not only for advisers who want to get into the risk market, but also for experienced risk advisers who want to increase their production. It is the best investment I have ever made for a risk workshop."
Robert Liew - CFP & Authorised Representative, Vermont VIC
"Chris Unwin's risk workshops are sensational. I have come away twice now with a bag full of practical, unique and simple ideas that everybody can use. Our practice is currently in the process of adopting and implementing the Unwin fact finding techniques and presentation methods. The benefits to our business will be tenfold but ultimately and most importantly it is our clients and their families who will benefit most."
Alan Perrot - Authorised Representative, Whyalla SA
Chris says:
"I think the testimonials demonstrate that my presentation style is not only educational and informative, but also entertaining, engaging, interactive and, most importantly, of practical day to day benefit in any business practice."
